Blanco: The Queen of Sensitivity

Jay Six of the world-famous J6 and FB blogging team turns in a comment so precise that it deserves its own post:

In related news, Blanco is as ever the bastion of sensitivity... "Rita has Louisiana in her sights," Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said. "Head north. You cannot go east, you cannot go west. If you know the local roads that go north, take those." As for those who refuse to leave, she said: "Perhaps they should write their Social Security numbers on their arms with indelible ink." WTF?!?!?!

Jay is referring to this article.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco Thursday strongly urged residents of southwestern Louisiana, especially if they live south of Interstate 10, to "leave now" because if Hurricane Rita continues on its projected course, they will likely suffer the worst part of the storm.

"I don't think it's smart to stay," the governor said. "If some people insist on staying and think they can stay, I suggest they write their social security numbers on their face with indelible ink. Bodies are hard to identify."

Even as harsh and inappropriate as it is -- considering bodies are still being found from Katrina -- it's not even original. I heard a sheriff say it more than five years ago when Hurricane Georges tore the Caribbean to hell, then appeared to be heading straight for New Orleans. Instead, Mississippi took the direct hit.

So lesson one, Governor, if you attempt to be clever, at least be the first to say it.
