Katrina Roundup 09-09-05

FEMA Director Michael Brown is told to pack his bags and go home. He will keep his job, for now, but the new man in charge of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts is Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen. If only the citizens of Louisiana could extend the same courtesy to their governor. Maybe she could take a few months off in Las Vegas.

On a positive note, the loss of life could have been worse, if this computer simulation had been correct. More than 60,000 "people" were killed and 385,000 were injured or became ill after ficitional Cat 3 Hurricane Pam landed directly on New Orleans. Instead, the Cat 4 Katrina came ashore slightly east of the Crescent City. As many as 10,000 are feared dead, although the number could be inflated in the end based on preliminary reports.

Then there's this. Black refugees are shipped to Utah where they wonder, "Will we fit in?" And I thought all of the racists were confined to the South -- and the Bush Administration. If I were the New Orleans evacuees, I'd be more worried about harassment from Bible-toting bicycle riders than Kluckers.
