Worth A Thousand Words

Some photographs of New Orleans following Katrina's arrival to the Crescent City via several news sites ...

Above: I believe this is in Treme, which is in the heart of New Orleans. It's an historically black neighborhood, and at one time, was the main neighborhood for free people of color. A later photo shows a boat arriving to this house.

Above: This New Orleans police officer searches for gasoline to run hospital generators. This is in the Bywater neighborhood, also downtown and along the Mississippi River.

Above: Another photo of Treme. That's downtown in the back right corner.

Above: The Superdome lost part of its skin. But thankfully, the grand old dome withstood the storm.

Above: The Hyatt didn't fare so well. It eerily looks like Oklahoma City after the bombing.

Above: I'm not sure exactly where this photo was taken. But Florida Avenue (the street named in the sign) runs across the Navigation Canal. I suspect this photo, then, would be in the east-central part of the city.

Above: Some damage on Canal Street, but it seems to have held up nicely -- barring undetected structural damage.
