Cross Your Fingers

I pray for the day we can say "good riddance" to Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

While Election Day 2006 is a year and a half away, Santorum continues to fall behind in polls. A loss would severely cripple his fund raising and mostly likely end any '08 presidential ambitions. To make the situation even better, Santorum's potential opponent in '06 is Bob Casey Jr., son of the late Robert Casey. Like his father, he is a pro-life Democrat. I am hopeful the Democratic Party, however, treats this Casey less shamefully than it did his pops.

Casey, the son of a former governor, was favored in the Quinnipiac University poll, taken amid Santorum's high-profile push of President Bush's Social Security overhaul plan and his backing of the recent congressional intervention in the Terri Schiavo case.

Casey was favored by 49 percent of respondents in the telephone poll, conducted April 13 to Monday. Thirty-five percent supported Santorum, while 13 percent were undecided.

Dr. Sabato agrees that Santorum is in trouble. He also has thoughts on Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker's chances for Bill Frist's open Senate seat in Tennessee.

But knowing the Democrats in Pennsylvania, they'll find someway to screw this up.

EXTRA: This Freeper post includes an article on the pros and cons of Santorum and Casey Jr.
